Microcosmos

still microcosmos

Microcosmos is a poetic view into the bizarre landscape of insects and their interaction with the environment.

This film by Claude Nuridsany and Jean-Marc Perennou allows us to probe this micro world with a macro view showing scenes of slimy sensuality in the form of two inseparable snail lovers, a dung beetle struggling with his dung ball only to get it stuck into a stray root, little water beetles reminiscent of race cars and the impact environmental stimuli such as wind and rain has on these insects.

The inhabitants of this world aren't simply interchangeable representatives of animal species, they're individuals struggling with the problems of daily life, its surprises, comical situations, accidents and pleasures. [Claude Nuridsany]
