Bachelor of Arts [Fine Art] Graduation Show 2006
Jointly presented by Rmit University and Hong Kong Arts School
Hosted by the Hong Kong Arts Centre overlooking the harbour was an exhibition featuring a few of Hong Kong's latest talents. We appreciated our solitary time with the artworks amongst the busy centre of Hong Kong. The works were traditionally Fine Art but well presented for a graduate exhibition.
At first we saw a wall of flower-like images, on closer inspection we came to realise that these flowers were in fact photos revealing the undergarments of dolls which were held with a pin up their vagina. The work had the title of (somewhat appropriately) Hundred Flowers - we dare only think about the doll influence seeing another artist in the room next door with a work called self-portrait displaying herself in a photo looking like a doll, holding a doll.
With four television monitors on the floor, one was switched off (or broken), the other three moving between a red and white block, all in different directional motion through scaling the white or red box. Just by scaling it - it felt as if you were looking into a three dimensional space....a 3D painting. Above the screen were arrows explaining the motions.

Moving on, we see numerous empty and unfinished frames. On closer inspection we realise that some of the empty and unfinished frames carried canvases painted to merge in with the wall - hence simulating the background in which the frame hung. Chameleons cloaking themselves with the background, performing a disappearing act of the canvases.

Up on the 10th floor we asked the Hong Kong arts school reception about current electronic/bio exhibitions - we struggled to find non-traditional works but there is no lack of conceptually interesting ideas.
