SPACE SOON

2006

Arriving at the Roundhouse we were met by its natural and unique construction. Its wonderful space is indeed able to host challenging exhibitions and having heard about this exhibition a year in advance we expected nothing less. We made our way into the main space, a dome-like area, where a gigantic scrap metal rocket was lit up in an otherwise dark space. Far up the dry ice - slowly emitting - a lazy song about the debris produced by space travels.  Outside, the Space Station on Earth, felt partly finished in the concrete car park – rather than an exhibition space it produced a feeling of where travellers would hang out. With a billboard size background poster of Mars and some odd bikes (probably from a previous exhibition) it didn’t really live up to our anticipation of recreation of Mars on Earth. In the basement, The Space Baby, had one of the most intimate rooms. The hibernaculum and with lab action alongside a few actors in tube-like beds was a university science research program pretending to be an artwork for the occasion.
