The second stage of the three stage programme -
The View From Here - focused on the transpositions between media and what happens as a result.
The works exhibited in the
first stage of the programme (where the exhibitors were paired with one member of the audience who agrees to produce a piece of work in response) were re-exhibited with their "response" works.
Johan Thom's "Panopticon" shows the downward projected image of the hands with holes in them onto sand and glass. Thom was interested in what this work does and how it invites you to look closer. Theresia Peng responded to Thom's work with a video piece showing staircases in outdoor public space.
Sophia Handler's work captures a "moment in time" of elderly people dancing. The responding work by Orly Orbach showed ink drawings on different pieces of paper revealing the drawing processes of becoming something....
Elly Thomas showed "Kit", where cut out pieces of papers (objects) are projected onto the wall. This simple interactive engagement with cut out pieces of papers allows the audience to reconstruct the arrangment of the pieces of paper thereby constructing new arrangment of "objects".
Tim Long's (left, not responding to Thomas' work) dolls were hung up on the wall fitted with microphones and apparantly sounds (downloaded from internet) of people hyperventilating.

Unfortunatly, the Iphone does no justice to images shown in this blog, In particular Michael Delacruz's piece (above right), which, had I not read the event catalogue, this painting made me think of close up chemical compositions or the surface of a planet (perhaps Venus) where the red lines looked like measuring tools and the black some sort of vacuum or the limitations of the "instruments" visual eyehole. Instead this painting is, in Delacruz's words, "an attempt to capture the sensations of my experiences during routine helicopter night overflights of the industrial district of Dora in Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedon from 2004 - 2008."
On the left, is Emma Cheatle's work (not resonding to Delacruz work), "Part 1 City: between words and streets".
