AI in the Sky

AI in the Sky is an audio-visual artwork documenting the search for the female Encephalartos woodii, a rare cycad on the verge of extinction. Using drone-based multispectral imaging and AI-trained detection models, the project explores how machine vision can assist in locating rare plant species. The artwork visualizes the process - drone flights, spectral mapping, and algorithmic analysis - revealing how technology mediates ecological understanding. Blending real and synthetic data, AI in the Sky reflects on the evolving role of AI in conservation and the poetic tension between searching and the possibility of absence.
